Grace Cathedral of San Francisco acquires David LaChapelle photograph

The Grace Cathedral of San Francisco has acquired LaChapelle’s Our Lady of the Flowers (2018). The large-scale photographic work will become part of the church’s rich permanent collection which includes iconic pieces by Keith Haring, Ansel Adams, Richard Faralla and others.

Grace Cathedral is a renowned San Francisco landmark and serves as a beacon of hope and light for the community where diverse people gather to worship, celebrate, seek solace, converse and learn.

This event marks a milestone in David’s life and career.  He has long desired for his work to live in a sacred space that serves as a spiritual sanctuary for all people. 

Our Lady of the Flowers features Haitian-born model Guetcha Tondreau. Created in Maui in 2018,  Mary is adorned is over 4600 locally-grown flowers in a costume created by local Hawaiian artisans in the ku’i Lei tradition.
