Time Out New York | Steven Klein

Photographer Steven Klein's name may be most familiar from his fashion stints in Harper's Bazaar, I-D, The Face, W, Interview, Allure, and the various Vogues--Italian, American, and otherwise. But he's no stranger to the gallery scene, having exhibited his work at the Saatchi Gallery in London and James Danziger Gallery right here in New York. Still, his enigmatic and slightly spooky images have never been the subject of a one-person show-until now. All this month, Staley-Wise Gallery presents approximately 50 of Klein's large-scale color and black-and-white photographs, which, along with the expected waits and gamines, include many peculiar images, such as a man crouching on the floor with his head disappearing into a box, or a foot inexplicably bandaged with packing tape. Klein blends the cool of fashion and the soul of romanticism into strangely surreal moments.
