Donna Karan and Louis Dell’Olio for Anne Klein, 1982

A photographers instinct powerfully captures unparalleled moments. Offering a rare focus on fashion through the lens of renowned socio-political photojournalist Harry Benson, Staley Wise Gallery is exhibiting a series of 90 photographs--in time for the photographer's 90th birthday. Harry Benson: Behind the Scenes features the fashion industry's most influential icons (Bill Blass, Geoffrey Beene, Oscar de la Renta, Donna Karan, Pierre Cardin, Valentino and more) during the 'golden age' of American fashion. Opening with two large photographs of Halston (with models and at Studio 54 with friends), the exhibit juxtaposes the professional and and private lives of the featured designers in an intimate showcase. Highlights include a photo of Geoffrey Beene on his lawn (1988) carrying 2 dachshunds, a young Donna Karan dressing models for Anne Klein (1982), Calvin Klein (1989) posing for a young lady with a camera on a NYC street and Diane von Furstenberg (1991) jumping on her bed. Harry Benson:Behind the Scenes is on show at 100 Crosby St. (Suite 305) until February 22nd.

"A good photograph can never happen again. To me, that's what photography is--a glimpse, and gone forever."
