About Beckwith and Fisher

This exhibition of color photography by Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher shows the beauty and power of the vanishing rituals and customs of Africa. These photographs are the result of a thirty year journey of two intrepid women into remote villages in twenty-six countries in Africa. They have recorded the traditions and rituals, in many cases, of cultures which are dissapearing due to drought, famine, and political upheaval.Carol Beckwith, an American, and Angela Fisher, and Australian, have collaborated on several award-winning books, including African Ark and African Ceremonies. They have worked on documentary film projects, have lectured widely, and recently exhibited photographs at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
